Diana Stetson’s work has always involved juxtaposition of text with image because of her early study of  calligraphy and drawing at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.  Before beginning her work as a fine art printmaker in New Mexico, she studied and traveled in Asia, Mexico, Greece, and Europe.  She continues to travel for inspiration, and many of her monotypes incorporate elements collected in other countries.  Stetson’s marriage to a Buddhist priest, Jitsudo Ancheta, has helped nurture a contemplative and cross-cultural aesthetic in her work.  Stetson currently
creates her work at Hand Graphics in Santa Fe and at El Cerro Graphics in Los Lunas, N.M.  She signs all of her work with the chop seen below, which is a stone signature seal designed and carved for her by her Chinese teacher on Cheung Chau, Hong Kong in 1980, when he presented her with her artist name, Danya, or Red Elegance.
